YANGON, Myanmar – Detained pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi says she will not vote in Myanmar's election, even though authorities have informed her she is on the electoral roll.
Suu Kyi's lawyer Nyan Win said Tuesday that Suu Kyi informed him that she did not intend to vote in the Nov. 7 election.
Nyan Win told reporters her position after meeting her at her home, where she is under house arrest. She had previously advised followers that they have the right not to vote.
The military government disbanded her National League for Democracy party because it wouldn't register for an election it considers unfair and undemocratic. Suu Kyi was not listed on voter rolls initially but a supplemental list included her name.
